It may be assumed that the nature, trauma & harm, impact & multidimensional consequences of Domestic Violence & Abuse (DVA) end after adult and child survivors separate from their perpetrators, but the reality is far from this.

The phase of “Post-separation” (time after survivors separate from their perpetrator’s) is a major period in lives of adult and child survivors, but it is a universally highly misunderstood issue that continues to shape & control the lives of adult & child survivors for many years.

Most importantly, post-separation is the most dangerous phase for victims. Perpetrators continue to present untoward wide ranging difficulties to survivors, as well as professionals. And the risk of more grievous harm, and threat to life is greatest at this stage, accounting for 50% of homicides related to DVA.

The aim of this national training day is to thoroughly examine the complexities at post-separation, as well as provide the best guidance on addressing matters that arise amidst the post-separation challenges.
